Red-Tailed Hawk
Buteo Jamaicensis
Adult Red-tail. Half Moon Bay, CA 10.07.

Typical Western Red-Tailed. This is the ubiquitous, ridiculously [and often obnoxiously!] common, but still powerful and majestic raptor of North America.

Roufous and Dark morph Red-Tails are somewhat common in Sulfur Springs Valley in the Winter.

Red-Tails in Arizona have fewer body markings and lighter belly bands than other Western Red-Tails.
This immature Red-Tail in these three pictures tried [unsuccessfully] to rout an adult from its perch.

Classic Western Red-Tail.

Prominent Red-Tail nesting spot [in a saguaro] near Tucson. The chick on the left died soon after this picture was taken. It had appeared sickly since it was born a few weeks earlier.
